Transitional Hitler Youth Knife by Carl Eickhorn 1939
A Transitional Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Carl Eickhorn 1939. Based on construction, this knife can be dated to early-1939. The ricassoed blade on this one looks wonderful! The stamped “Eickhorn Solingen RZM M7/66” maker/RZM marks and “39” dated ricasso are all beautifully executed. Traces of crossgrain remains visible as you turn it in the sun. The fit continues to remain nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. There are some scratches on blade the worse being near the cutting edge obverse. It shows only minor age. The original black sealed leather buffer remains intact. The steel based black enamel repainted scabbard has a period repair to the upper rivet securing the leather to the scabbard body. The rivet has been replaced with a bolt/nut assembly. Likely the upper rivet was lost at some point and the kids' dad fixed it. I like seeing these wee features as it adds some personality! It has a dent to the lower obverse. 99% paint coverage remains. The LFS marked hanger leather is in excellent condition. The snap works well. The alloy based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 92%+ of its plating. The grip plates are damage-free black checkered presstof. Both steel rivets remain tightly secured. The wiggly HJ diamond has 99%+ of its enamel. A beautiful piece!
