Early Hitler Youth Knife by Puma
Earliest Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Puma of Solingen. Based on construction, this piece can be dated to late 1933. The early thin mottoed blade on this one has been cleaned hard. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto is faint and hardly visible, if you turn it just so in the sun you can find traces of it. The stamped “PUMA Solingen” earliest variation maker mark. The blade rattles ever so slightly. The blade cutting edge is rough and there are scars from being sharpened. The buffer pad is lost to time. The scabbard is sheet metal based black enamel repaint. It continues to hold 99% painted finish. The brown scabbard leather is supple and actually limp. The center rivet is bent. The button strap portion functions fine. The snap works well. The hilt is iron based and nickel-silver plated. It shows some plating loss and oxidizing. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in great shape. Both nickel-silver rivets remain intact tightly securing the hilt. The medium HJ diamond has enamel loss. It does not wiggle.
