A M1937 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger (Fliegerdolch) by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. The blade on this one has some age and spotting. The stamped “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark is crisp and perfectly executed. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade on this one rates Exc. The original leather buffer pad remains intact. The Eickhorn steel based airplane grey scabbard looks great. It has random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. It remains completely dent free and the two headless throat retaining screws remain intact! This one employs generic fittings as we do often see on Eickhorn daggers, see Witty's reference pg 200. The burnished Luftwaffe eagle crossguard has good detail to its head, feathers, wings and top side embossed oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule and guilt generic pommel look excellent as well. The celluloid over plaster grip is chip and crackfree. It has wear but no damage. The aluminum springy wire wrap remains tightly intact. The pommel has traces of gilt gold. Finally the pommel on this was stripped so I added some fine copper wire to the tang to tighten this up. It's fine now but if you are the guy who can't help but take this stuff apart best to find another. A decent example!
