Personalized Army Dagger by Paul Weyersberg

A Model 1935 - Wehrmacht Heer Dolch by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen from the Vet's family. An early brass slant grip, tapered tang, textbook piece here. The plated blade on this one looks good. The acid etched encircled wreathed broad sword “Paul Weyersberg & Co. Solingen” maker mark is quite correct, see how far down it is on the blade? That too is exactly how some of these early ones were made. My theory is that they were issued this way and later the mark was put to the reverse. The fit is nice and tight and the tip has vey a bit of plating loss. If you do choose to disassemble you will find the tang to be numbered matching the crossguard. The blade rates Exc++. It is clean and there is minor wear and surface scratches. The tan pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The brass based, nickel silver plated scabbard provides wonderful detail with the random pebbling and hand enhanced oak leaf and acorn bands. There are some hits to the scabbard the worse being to the center obverse. These early brass scabbards often have dents and likely a contributing factor to manufacturers quickly switching to steel. The original throat retaining screws remain intact. The tombak based nickel-silver plated WKC pattern is what these guys employed early on. Beautiful details throughout the eagle’s head, wings, wreath, beak and chest. Best of all The reverse is jeweler personalized, "CvS". I can't positively identify the owner from that small amount of information but suggest he was from nobility as the "v" is almost certainly "von" Ok so if you want an educated guess as to who this was you could make an argument for the famous Carl von Stülpnagel. Stülpnagel was an officer early on when these were authorized for wear in 1935. He also was involved in the 20 July plot. It was also suggested this could be "GvS" RK winner Gerhard von Schwerin? Regardless who the original owner was can not be positively acertained but it's fun to look. Both pommel and ferrule are plated brass and beautifully detailed with proud oak leaves and acorns throughout. Nice burnishing to the fittings and scabbard. The desirable chip and crack-free slant orange trylon grip is in nice shape. An interesting early dagger that just might be the one...
