Etched Blade - M1937 Fliegerdolch für Offiziere by Robert Klaas of Solingen. This piece is equipped with aluminum hilt mounts. The pommel exhibits a grey finish and remains in excellent condition showing little to no wear. The crossguard is in matching condition and finish to include rear pebbled surface of the reverse guard. The grip is an interesting variation occasionally encountered on pieces from Klass. Though many are aware of their black trylon grips being painted white, the wood variation isn’t as well known. Apparently Klass was looking for deals or cost saving options when it came to grips. This is one of the wood-based grips that was painted white and sold during the period. It remains in good condition wrapped with twisted aluminum wire and retaining 85% of the original white paint. The steel scabbard exhibits age throughout but is dent free. Aluminum pebbled panels and bands, the throat is retained with two headless side screws. The polished steel blade exhibits mild age throughout. It is stamped on the reverse with the Kissing Cranes trademark of the Klaas firm and the original leather buffer is in place. A nice variation for the Luftwaffe collector.
