Heavy, Six Rivets, Short Pin - Deutsches Kreuz in Gold by Deschler & Sohn of München. Instituted September 28, 1941, the Gold German Cross was awarded to military personnel to recognize repeated acts (6-8) of bravery or exceptional command in combat. It is constructed out of a die struck, five-piece construction, with a; tombak base, white core, gold fire gilded tombak wreath with polished highlights and red and black enamel work. The obverse features a large centrally placed raised black enamel mobile swastika, on a smooth white/silver aluminum base, which is surrounded by a gilded tombak laurel leaf and ribbon wreath that is marked “1941” to the bottom and lies on a red enamel base. This is all on a two-piece backend and silvered eight-point sunburst pattern backing. The full back reverse correctly shows; 6 tombak rivets, a soldered-on rectangular wire catch, soldered-on sheet metal hinge and a short pin. All continue to work well. It looks to have been cleaned in the period. It shows beautiful age patina. The enamel is in practically perfect condition. It measures 2 1/2 inches wide and tall. It weighs 67 grams.
