Japan, Korean War, Nisshōki (日章旗), c.1948-1953. It is constructed out of a dyed white and red silk base. The rectangular shaped obverse features a centrally placed red circle (representing the sun) on a white base. The reverse is the same. The fly and hoist ends have been folded over and stitched together. The hoist corners have re-enforced tan leather patches that have been stitched over the mounting white cotton strings. It shows fold marks. It measures approximately 38 inches long by 28 inches tall. Came in a Korean war veteran’s group from a William K. Fogg of the United States 40th Infantry Division.
