Model 1939 - Postschutz Dolch für Führer by Paul Weyersberg & Co. of Solingen. The double edged, spear-point blade on this one looks wonderful. The acid etched oval “Paul Weyersberg & Co. Solingen” wreathed broad sword marker marks is dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain looks gorgeous running the full length of the blade. The tip and fit are both perfect. The blade rates NM. There is some spotting, mostly concentrated towards the tip, along with the common scratches throughout. The textured black leather buffer pad remains intact. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard is in excellent condition. The three nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings remain in excellent condition. Minor scratches throughout. They are all tightly secured with all five original screws. The nickel-silver chain is complete ending at the correct zinc based and plated “DRGM” marked clip. The keeper on the clip wants to let loose. The scabbard sits perfectly up against the hilt. The crossguard and pommel are solid nickel-silver and plated. The two enameled swastikas are in perfect condition. The bottom of the crossguard is stamped “DRP” (Deutsches Reichpost) and is numbered “995”. The hardwood grip is boiled and died black. There is a chip above the eagle’s beak along with common pressure marks throughout. It has a properly pinned on DRP eagle emblem to the front and center. These postal pieces are getting very tough to come by. Overall, this is a wonderful example.
