A M1939 German Rifle Association Dagger. The single edged, needle point, ricassoed, matte finished, triple acid etched, 15 ¾ inch blade on this one is in excellent condition. The panels are dark and crisp, beautifully depict: deer, hunting apparel, a target, trees and laurel leaves all in hunting settings. It holds a nice tight fit with a perfect tip. The blade rates NM. It shows minor ageing and scratches throughout. The scabbard is constructed out of a blackened tanned leather. It depicts two decorative lines running through its length on both sides. All of the reverse stitching remains intact. It shows bumps, cracks and bruises throughout. The fittings are steel based and nickel-silver plated. They have decorative scalloped edges and are secured by one staple each. The top fitting has a wee wiggle as is typical with these. The hilt features an oval clamshell, which depicts; a half oak leaf and acorn half laurel leaf and berry wreath surrounding an enameled “Deutscher - Schützen-Verband” Rifle Association Membership emblem, correctly pinned in place. The crossguard features a decorative s-guard with the quillions ending at a single acorn each. The ferrule and pommel both have decorative lines throughout. The pommel ends at an aluminum screw that is un-tampered with. The lined grip is wood based and celluloid covered. It is cracked as are 95% of these. The grip also has two brass crossed rifles that are correctly pinned to the center obverse. A rarer piece, that we haven’t had in a long time!
