Bone Grip – Glatter Hirschfänger für Forstbeamte by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This example is featured as Nr. 96 in the WKC Sales Catalog. The 15 3/8-inch long, triple etched blade on this one is a work of art. The crisp acid etched panels and spine provide a gorgeous display of: a hunter and dog, a bull and cow elk in the forest along a buck head and hunting gear, and two partridges to the top (obverse), a bull elk, two foxes and a dog, hunting gear and buck and doe deer (reverse) and an oak leaf and acorn (spine). The blade is stamped with the knights head “WKC” maker mark to the obverse. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows age grey/spotting and surface scratches throughout. The original green felt buffer pad remains 10% intact. The scabbard is made out of a stitched together black tanned leather base (body) with two stapled-on gilded brass scalloped fittings. The leather only shows minor scuffs and scratches throughout. The reverse of each fitting is numbered “4” underneath the staple. The top obverse fitting features an acorn lug. The scabbard sits securely up against the hilt. The langet features a clamshell. The cast brass d-guard hilt has a deer hoof to the end. The ferrule has a lined decoration. The grip is made out of two choice bone plates that have three acorns to either side. The brass has all been gold gilded and has beautifully matching patina. A wonderful example.
