A Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold (2. Form) by 30 Hauptmünzamt of Wien. Instituted September 1, 1939, the Gold Wound Badge was awarded for five or more times wounded, loss of limbs, total blindness, “loss of manhood”, or severe brain damage via hostile action. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and lacquered. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The fullback reverse is maker marked: “30”, features the textbook lathe marks, the correct soldered-on catch, u-shaped hinge with nail head hinge-pin and round wire pin. The badge measures 1 3/4 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide. Beautiful.
