An Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Gräwiso - Gebruder Grafrath of Solingen. Based on construction this piece can be dated to 1934. The blade on this one is in wonderful condition. The stamped “Gräwiso Solingen” maker mark and “Ges. Geschützt” patent mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto is gorgeous. The crossgrain is easily visible as you shine it in the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight, just as it should be. The blade rates NM. The spine has some rough areas, it shows minor scratches and age grey throughout. The original brown tanned leather buffer pad remains intact. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard is in excellent condition. It has some spidering and minor scratches. It retains 95% paint coverage and it remains completely dent free. The paint goes right over the bottom portion of the leather and lowest two rivets. I guess it could be a re-paint but based on its condition I really don’t think so. It has one scabbard runner. The brown scabbard leather is in excellent condition. It is clearly “LFS” marked to the reverse. It has all of its rivets intact and the snap continues to work well. The iron-based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 99%+ of its plating. The grip plates are black checkered bakelite and remain in perfect condition. Both solid nickel-silver rivets remain tightly secured. The small HJ diamond has a dark area and retains 99% of its enamel. Textbook motto, die flaws and construction. It is very rare to find these early era pieces in such nice condition!
