Unissued - USAF Combat Crew Badge

United States, Cold War era – Unissued Air Force Missel Combat Crew Badge by Susco (S-21) Harry Sugerman, Inc. of San Antonio Texas. Instituted September 1, 1964, the Combat Crew Badge was established by the United States Air Force for those serving in positions where they were accruing creditable service towards the Combat Readiness Medal. It was a temporary qualification badge and not a medal. The Air Force eliminated the Combat Crew Badge from wear in August 1993. It is constructed out of a die struck silvered sterling base that has been burnished and contains blue enamel work. The obverse features the United States Air Force Emblem to the left of “Combat Crew”. The fullback reverse is marked “Sterling” above “S-21”. The brass butterfly clutch pin backs are marked. It measures 3 inches wide by ¾ of an inch tall. It is attached to the original blue and white cardstock backing. It reads: “Susco S-21 Harry Sugerman, Inc. San Antonio, Texas”. It measures: 3 5/8 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches tall.
