Japan, Mid-Edo Period (c.1700 A.D.) - Tsuba (鍔) Suaka – (素銅) Kaō marked Sword Guard by Tsuneshige (常重) of the Nara School. This sword guard is made of pure copper (suaka) with a carved surface texture (jimon) with black burnishing and gold/brass highlights. It has a picturesque floral motif with a face to the front and dragon to the back. It features a standard vertically elongated round shape (nagamaru-gata), with a carved surface (migaki-ji) and a raised rim (hira-dote-mimi). It is Kaō marked to the seppa-dai. There is one kozuka hitsu-ana hole. Size: 46.70mm x 56.52mm, 5.18mm thick, 53g. For use on a wakizashi. Box and pillow. Stock Nr. #28.
