NBTHK Tokubetsu Kichi (important work) Designation - Japan, Mid-Edo Period (1736-1860 AD) - Mito Daishō Tsuba by Hamano. Attrituted to Hamano Yukihiro Master Tsuba Maker. These sword guards (tsuba 鐔) are made of forged brass (shinchū 真鍮). Both dai and sho have a high relief, inlayed with gold and copper (shakudō), depicting a money in a tree mischievously tantalizing a dog and baiting him. The Dai (large): has a polished surface (migaki-ji), round shape (maru-gata) and an angular rim (kaku-mimi). There are two hitsu-ana holes. Size: 74.05mm x 70.60mm, 4.55mm at rim, 145g. The Sho (small): has a polished surface (migaki-ji), has a round shape (maru-gata) and an angular rim (kaku-mimi). There is one hole (kozuka-hitsu-ana). Size: 71.25 x 68.06mm, 4.76mm at rim, 144g. This daisho tsuba is for use on a katana and wakizashi. Deluxe kiri box and single pillow included. No papers origami. Stock Nr. #15.
