A Model 1933 - Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen 1938. The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto, RZM Contract Code / date “RZM 941/38 SS” and seated squirrel holding a broad sword “Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are all beautifully executed. Traces of crossgrain remain. The tip comes to a sharp point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc+. It has been cleaned, there are several hits to the cutting edges, pitting areas and scratches throughout. The scabbard is sheet metal based and black enamel painted. It shows spidering throughout. It retains 80% of the original painted coverage. It continues to remain dent free. The steel-based nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings look great. All four screws remain intact, three show evidence of being turned and one is a replacement. The ball has a bruise to its bottom. the loop that holds the ring has broke off at one point. The scabbard to hilt fit is tight. The zinc-alloy based nickel-silver plated crossguards are in great shape. Typical bubbling around the wood grip. The crossguard to grip fits are poor. The grip is black died hardwood and looks good. It has some scratches, bumps and flake chips. The nickel-silver eagle has great detail and a nice fit. The SS roundel retains 99% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit.
