A First Pattern (pre-August 1937) / Traditions Badge - Reichsarbeitsdienst der weiblichen Jugend Brosche in Silber für Maidenführin. Introduced sometime after the mandatory six-month conscription in June 26, 1935, the first pattern membership brooches were awarded to women who had completed one year service (bronze – Arbeitsmaid, Silver - Maidenführin and Gold - Lagerführin). Personnel who had been issued these first pattern brooches retained the right to wear them as a traditions badge. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed and burnished. The round shaped obverse features an off centered mobile swastika above wheat sheaths on a textured background surrounded by, in Sütterlin script: “Arbeit für dein Volk - Adelt dich selbst Deutscher Frauenarbeitsdienst.” (Work for your people - Knights Yourself German Women’s Labor Service.). The concave reverse is stamped with the membership/serial number: “62879” and has a soldered-on well working pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures 1 ¾ inches in diameter. The earliest RADwJ badge to the second highest rank.
