A Hitlerjugend Leistungsabzeichen in Silber by RZM M1/72 - Fritz Zimmermann of Stuttgart. Instituted June 1, 1934, the Hitler Youth Proficiency Badge was awarded to HJ members who successfully passed a four-part aptitude test in athletics (sports), shooting (air-rifle), field exercises and political knowledge. The iron class was awarded to DJ and HJ members up to the age of 15, the bronze class was awarded to sixteen-year-old HJ members and the silver class was awarded to seventeen-year-old HJ members. It is constructed out of a die-struck zinc base that has been silver washed. The obverse depicts an off centered mobile swastika that is encircled by: “Für Leistungen in der H.J.” (For Proficiency in the H.J.) above a Tyr-rune. The fullback reverse is maker marked “RZM M1/72”. It has a soldered-on round plate holding a vertically placed tombak pin assembly that remains in well working condition. It measures 2 inches high by 1 3/16 inches wide. A prized piece needed in most HJ collections.
