Die Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 with spange. A complete set with stickpin! The Sudetenland medal was awarded to all German military personnel who participated in the occupation of Sudetenland and the occupation of Czechoslovakia in March 1939. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been bronze washed. The round shaped obverse depicts two unclothed men (one has a chain around his right wrist, the other is holding an NSDAP flag on a pole) that are standing on a pedestal that has a German national eagle on it. The reverse reads: "1. Oktober 1938" to the center and is surrounded by "Ein Volk Ein Reich Ein Führer" (October 1 1938 One People, One Empire, One Leader). To the top of the medal is a soldered on loop and ring which holds approximately 3 inches of red, black and white folded rayon ribbon with a spange. The private purchase Prague Castle bar features an embossed likeness of the Prague Castle on a slightly recessed field with a raised outer edge lip. The Castle bar is not secured to the ribbon. It has two, bent over, soldered attachment prongs on the reverse and is correctly marked L/11, (Wilheim Deumer). To the back of the ribbon is a brass gilded pin assembly, which is secured with black thread. The medal measures approximately 1 ¼ inches in diameter. The bronze wash is in beautiful condition and the detail is superb! The award comes housed in its original case. The case is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard with a simulated maroon grained leather covering. To the top is a pressed gold guiled National eagle, with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The interior top lid is lined in white silk and has an underlying pad, there is some wear to the case and the reverse looks to have been pierced at some point, I'm sure this could be touched up if you so wish. The bottom interior of the case is covered in a maroon felt with and has an exterior white cardboard border. To the front is a gilded round steel spring loaded closure button. To the back is a gilded steel staggered bar hinge. The hinge and the closure button continue to function well. The case has a few light scuffs throughout. It measures approximately 4 1/8 inches long by 2 inches wide by 7/8 of an inch thick. Finally finishing this nicely is a matching stickpin.
