Canada, WWII - The South Alberta Regiment Cap Badge. The South Alberta Regiment (SAR) was created in 1924, and then mobilized in 1940 when the 4th Canadian Infantry Division was reorganized as an armored formation during the Second World War. The SAR fought in the Invasion of Normandy and participated in the liberation of Holland. It is constructed out of a bi-metal brass and nickel base. The obverse features the Alberta Escutcheon, below a royal crown and above “The South Alberta Regt” on a flowing banner flanked by two maple leaves. The hollow back reverse features two soldered-on loops and pin. It measures 1 11/16 inches wide by 1 13/16 inches tall.
