A Treuedienst-Ehrenzeichen 1.Stufe für 40 Jahre 1938 im Etui by Deschler & Sohn of München. Instituted January 30, 1938, the 40 Year Faithful Service Cross was awarded to all officials, employees, and laborers at any level of the public service (local, regional or national) who completed 40 years of service to Germany. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded and contains black enamel work and is finished in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a pebbled pattée style cross that has an oak leaf wreath visible through the corners and a centrally placed black static swastika / “Fur Treue Dienste” (For Faithful Service) to the reverse. To the top is a soldered-on loop and ring which holds approximately 3 1/2 inches of folded blue rayon ribbon and a stitched-on well working brass based gilded pin assembly. The award measures 1 5/8 inches wide and tall. The gold gilt wonderfully shines in the light and the enamel work is 99%. The award comes housed in its appropriate issue case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated, grained red leatherette. The very top features a golden wreathed “40”. To the front is a round gilded steel, spring loaded closure button. To the back is a gilded steel staggered bar hinge. The hinge and the closure button continue to function well. The interior top lid is lined in pearl satin and has an underlying pad. The lid is also maker marked reading: “Deschler & Sohn München”. The bottom interior of the case is made of a red flocking covered cardboard along with white lacquered cardboard to the edges. The exterior shows minor scuffs throughout. The case measures 4 inches long by 1 15/16 inches wide by ¾ inches thick. A decriable maker.
