THE Textbook Example - Erich Schön Presentation Panel - M1937 Fliegerdolch für Offiziere. This is the exact example was previously in Thomas T. Wittmann’s personal collection and is featured on page 258 of his reference “Exploring The Dress Daggers of the German Luftwaffe” Vol 2. He has provided a detailed description: “The obverse of this double-etched example features a center presentation panel. The etching resembles the style used on the Voos and Voos-like examples. Although the blade has unfortunately experienced some pitting caused from moisture, the original nickel plated surface have preserved most of the blade finish and frosted backgrounds. The three-line relief presentation reads, “Zur Erinnerung” “an das Kriegsjahr 1940/41” “Dein HerzI”. It is translated as, “In memory of the War Year 1940-1941, your sweetheart”. The reverse of the double-etched blade depicts the original owner’s name, “Erich Schön”. This dagger was purchased most-likely as a gift from the Luftwaffe man’s fiancée”

The light brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is sheet metal based and nickel-silver plated. It remains completely dent free. It shows some plating loss to the edges. It depicts nice detail throughout, with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. The single reverse headless throat retaining screw remains intact. The aluminum bands show nice hand enhancing. The aluminum based burnished eagle crossguard has crisp detail throughout the eagle’s head, feathers, wings and top side etched oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule displays a nice oak-leaf pattern. The aluminum-alloy pommel looks excellent with the mobile swastika encircled by oak leaves and acorns. The wood based celluloid covered grip looks excellent being chip and crack free. The dual twisted brass wire wrap remains intact. A unique and prized piece for any collector…
