A Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber (2. Form) mit der Papiertüte by 107 - Carl Wild of Hamburg. Introduced September 1, 1939, the wound badge in silver was awarded to those who were wounded three or four times by hostile action (including air raids) or frostbitten in the line of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been silver washed. The oval shaped obverse depicts an embossed profile of a mobile swastika, above an M35 pattern helmet, which is above two crossed broad swords. This then lies on a pebbled field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a bow tie. The reverse is maker marked “107” within an oval border, and has a soldered-on tombak oval plate with a tombak round wire catch, soldered-on tombak sheet metal hinge and steel round wire pin. All of the components remain in well-working condition. The silvered finish and patina look great. The badge measures 1 3/4 inches high by 1 1/2 inches wide. The badge comes with is rare correct issue packet. The envelope like packet is constructed out of a pressed paper that has been folded and glued together. The obverse reads, in black printed Gothic style script: “Verwundeten - Abzeichen Silber”, below written in English pen: “Silver (purple heart)”. The reverse reads: “Carl Wild Metallwarenfabrik Hamburg 24” within a black rectangular border. It is well worn. It measures 2 9/16 inches wide by 3 5/8 inches tall. A wonderful and rare assembly.
