Early - Flugzeugführer und Beobachterabzeichen by Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid. Institutted Januay 19, 1935, the joint Pilot and Observer Badge was to be awarded to personnel who the previously held the Pilot or the Observer Badge and fulfilled the requirements for the other badg, and had held the single badge for at least one year. It is a two piece die struck tombak construction that has been silver washed and gold gilded with polished highlights. The obverse features a silvered centrally placed massive swooping Luftwaffe eagle with outstretched wings clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is in front of, attached at the wings, to a gold half laurel leaf and berry / half oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse correctly displays the soldered-on tombak block hinge, soldered-on tombak round wire catch, nickel-silver round wire pin and two rivets. The obverse displays beautiful details throughout the eagle and wreath. I believe the swastika had broken off and been re-soldered back on by a jewler, perhaps in the period. It measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/8 inches tall.
