Railroad Eagle by GPH

Rare - 24 3/4-inch (63.0cm) - Deutsche Reichsbahn Adler (Hoheitzeichen) by GPH - Gustav Hähl of Pforzheim, this marker has not yet been confirmed. Introduced January 12, 1938, and authorized on Aprill 22, 1938, these eagles were for use on engines (Lokomotiven). It is constructed out of a cast aluminum composition that has been black burnished. The obverse features a national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. The semi-hollow back reverse features three studs. To the left wing, it is marked: “GAl-Mg-Si” (G=Guss, Al=Aluminum, Mg=Magnesium, Si=Silicon) and “GPH” (maker mark). In between the talons, it is marked: “RZA 5” (Reichsbahn-Zentralamt 5) above “BLN” (Berlin). To the center of the swastika, it is marked: “M” “45”. All of the markings are recessed. The border of the swastika has two scuffs and 12 holes drilled into it. I am sure it could be repaired should you wish to do so. GPH is an extremely rare maker and is known to have made rare sizes. This is one of the most requested pieces by collectors and most often serves as the centerpiece of their collection...
