Austro-Hungarian Empire, WWI - Ungarische Weltkriegs-Erinnerungsmedaille für Frontkämpfer 1914-18 mit Schwertern. Instituted May 26, 1929, by Regent Miklós Horthy, the Hungarian World War I Commemorative Medal with Swords was awarded to frontline soldiers who fought in the First World War. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been silver plated, chemically burnished and finished in a lacquer coating. The obverse features the Holy Crown on top of the Hungarian small coat of arms, which is in front of two crossed swords, and a half oak leaf and acorn, half laurel and berry wreath. The reverse reads: “Pro Deo et Patria” (For God and Fatherland), arched above an M18 style helmet, above “1914–1918” and above a half laurel leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. To the top is a soldered-on loop and ring which is attached to a white-green, red and white triangular folded rayon ribbon. The ribbon has a nip out of it and has been re-stitched. The medal was put on backwards. It measures 1 7/16 inches in diameter.
