Miniatur - Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter 1. Stufe in Bronze (2. Form) by L/10 - Deschler & Sohn of München. Instituted December 16, 1938, the Honor Cross of the German Mother was awarded to mothers for exceptional merit to the German nation, who conceived and raised; four to five (bronze), six to seven (silver) or eight or more (gold) children and exhibited probity, exemplary motherhood. The lapel variation was available for private purchase and every day wear. The two-piece award is constructed out of die struck bronze base, that has been bronze washed and includes blue, black and white enamel work. The obverse is in the form of a Christian cross and shows; a centrally place black static swastika above a white base, that is surrounded by “Der Deutschen Mutter” (The German Mother) and is in front of a sunburst pattern emanating out of each arm of the cross. The reverse shows a flat back with a recessed: “16. December 1938” along with two styles of Hitler's facsimile signature and is LDO marked: “L/10”. The enamel work remains 99% intact. To the top is an integral half hexagon shaped loop which holds a bow tie blue and white rayon ribbon. Stitched to the reverse is a well working plate and pin, hinge and catch assembly. The cross measures 5/8 of an inch wide by 3/4 of an inch tall. Purchased from the great grand daughter of a WWI Bavarian veteran.
