Free State of Bavaria, c.1922-36 - Feuerwehr Ehrenzeichen für 25 Jahre Dienst in Eisen. Instituted July 1, 1920, the Bavarian Free State Fire Service Medal was awarded for 25 years of loyal and diligent service in a volunteer fire department. It is constructed out of a die stamped zinc-alloy base that has been black enamel painted. The oval shaped obverse features an early style fire helmet in front of two crossed vines and two berries and has a small “U” to the bottom. The reverse reads: “Für 25 Jährige Dienst Zeit” with a small “x” to the bottom. To the top is a decorative integral loop and a ring. The larger ring and ribbon is missing. The medal measures 1 1/8 inches wide by 1 9/16 inches tall. The medal comes with its original issue packet. The obverse features, in black ink: the Coat of arms of Bavaria, above “Feuerwehr-Ehrenzeichen”, “25” and a line to the bottom. It measures 2 3/16 inches wide by 3 3/8 inches tall. A rare packet.
