Numbered, Type I - SA-Sportabzeichen in Gold by Bonner Kunstabz. of Bedarf Bonn a/RH. Instituted November 28, 1933, the SA Sports Badge in Gold was a service award (as opposed to a sports badge) awarded to those whose receipt was tied to regular repetitive exercises, similar to a sports instructor. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been gold gilded. The obverse depicts an upright vertical Roman broad sword, in front of a mobile swastika, which is surrounded by an eight-piece laurel leaf wreath that is tied together at both sides. The semi-hollow back reverse is numbered: “93458”, maker marked: “Bonner Kunstabz.” and “Bedarf Bonn a/RH” and features the first pattern inscription, (1933-35): “Eigentum D. Chefs D. Ausbidungswesens” (Property of the Head of Physical conditioning). The pin, hinge and catch assembly are all in well working condition. It measures 1 13/16 inches wide by 2 5/16 inches tall. The gold wash has faded as is expected with these early ones. A rare and desirable award.
