Ukraine, Austria, Germany - Four-Piece Medal Bar

Ukraine, Austria, Germany – WWI/WWII Four-Piece Medal Bar. An incredibly rare assembly of awards. From left to Right we have:

  • Germany, WWII - War Merit 2nd Class with Swords (Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern, instituted October 18, 1939).
  • Austra, WWI - First Issue (Kaiser Franz Joseph), Bronze Bravery Medal (Bronzene Tapferkeitsmedaille, instituted February 14, 1915). Damaged ring.
  • Austra, WWI - Second Issue (Kaiser Karl), Bronze Bravery Medal (Bronzene Tapferkeitsmedaille, instituted April 4, 1917). Damaged ring.
  • Ukraine, WWI - 10th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Ukrainian State 1917-1927 Medal (37mm). Introduced on October 1927, the magazine “Діло” published an appeal stating: “On the tenth anniversary of the reconstruction of the Ukrainian State, every Ukrainian should buy himself a commemorative medal.” It is constructed out of a die stamped brass base that has been bronze plated. The round shaped obverse features the Coat of Arms of Ukraine in front of the Sun and downward pointing rays, all surrounded by a decorative floral motif. The reverse reads: “В ХРЫЩЕНІЮ ВІДБУДЕНО УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ ДЕРЖАВИ” (In the Christening of the Ukrainian State), below “1917”, above “1927” and in front of / flanked by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom. To the top is a barrel loop and round wire ring.
The bar consists of a stamped steel sheet metal base, that is covered to the front with each medal’s appropriate rayon ribbon above a pad and to the back with a red satin, assembled with red stitching. The reverse also shows the appropriate field grey painted: keepers, pin, covered hinge and catch assembly that remain in well working condition. It measures 5 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches tall. A rare assembly!
