Austria, WWI - War Commemorative Medal 1914-1918

First Republic of Austria, WWI – Kriegserinnerungsmedaille 1914-1918. Instituted December 21, 1932, the war commemorative medal was awarded to individuals who served in the civil service or who were involved in the care of the wounded and sick during WWI. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been bronze washed. The round shaped obverse features an Austrian eagle perched on an Austrian shield above “Für Österreich”. The reverse features: “1914-1918” above “Grienauer” all surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath. To the top is a soldered-on barrel loop and ring which is attached to a red and white, Austrian style, triangular folded, rayon ribbon. The medal measures 1 3/8 inches in diameter.
