A M1937 Fliegerdolch by ASSO - Artur Schüttelhöfer & Co. of Solingen-Wald. The blade on this one has been repointed. The acid etched hobby horses “ASSO – A. Schüttelhöfer & Co. Solingen-Wald” maker mark is beautifully executed. Some crossgrain remains. There is some age. The blade on this one rates Exc. It shows some age grey/clouding, along with the typical runner marks. The brown leather buffer pad remains intact. The steel-based airplane grey plated scabbard looks wonderful. It depicts great details throughout the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. It remains completely dent free and the two throat retaining screws remain intact. As with most of these smaller makers the fittings are generic. The alloy Luftwaffe eagle crossguard has amazing detail to its head, feathers, wings and top side embossed oak leaves and acorns. The steel ferrule and pommel look excellent as well. All matching patina. The goliath grip is interesting, it has lots of wee mirco cracks. The goliath material was tried for a short while and later abandon in favor of celluloid over plaster. The brass springy wire wrap remains intact. Overall, an interesting example by a rarer maker fresh from Vet's family.
