Luftwaffe Bomber Clasp in Bronze
A Luftwaffe Frontflugspange für Kampfflieger in Bronze. This variation has been attributed to Assmann despite being unmarked. The Bronze Bomber Clasp, Kampf und Sturzkampfflieger (Heavy, Medium and Dive-Bomber), was awarded for 20 combat missions. It is constructed out of two pieces of die struck bronze / die stamped nickel-silver that has been bronze washed / chemically blackened and covered in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse depicts a centrally placed blackened downward pointing ‘winged-bomb’ that is surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom with a stagnant swastika and is flanked by four round cut outs and two nine piece oak leaf clusters. The semi-full back reverse shows a recessed lathed portion with a center rivet, a soldered on nickel flat wire catch, soldered on tombak barrel hinge and sturdy coke bottle pin.
