A Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch ohne Widmung by Gottlieb Hammesfahr of Solingen. E. Rohm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31st 1931 or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). 9900 were allocated for eligible members of the SS. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4th 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566). The acid etched "Meine Ehere Heisst Treue" motto and "Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen" maker mark are correctly executed. The blade has been cleaned. The reverse has had all the Rohm inscription removed. Looks to me like the remover used some sot of file or mechanical means to the back as there are wee marks and small scuffs throughout. The obverse has no evidence of this heavy cleaning. The blade remains bright The etch is somewhat lightened. The fit continues to remain solid! The blade rates in at Exc++. The steel based, black anodized scabbard looks to me to have had the finish reblued at some point. There is some pitting to the body. The ball is perfect. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The solid nickel crossguards look excellent as well. The reverse of the lower crossguard is marked "III" (Berlin). The crossguards to grip fits are very good. The dyed black hardwood grip has been post-war repaired. As with so many of these SS grips this one chipped and has been repaired with by a professional. The solid nickel eagle has a perfect fit and retains beautiful detail! The SS runes retain 99% enamel and it has perfect fit. The scabbard patina does not perfectly match the guards so most likely the scabbard has been replaced at some point. Nope not perfect as some work has been done on this but a very good looking example at a fair price.
