A Model 1933 - Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen 1938. The blade on this one has some fingerprint stain the worse of which is to the reverse. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto, RZM Contract Code / date “RZM 941/38 SS” and seated squirrel holding a broad sword “Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are all beautifully executed. Lots of crossgrain remain. The tip comes to a sharp point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc+. The scabbard is sheet metal based and black enamel painted. It shows spidering throughout. It retains 99.9% of the original painted coverage. It continues to remain dent free. The steel-based nickel-silver plated scabbard fittings look great. All four screws remain intact. The ball is perfect. The scabbard to hilt fit is nice. The solid nickel crossguards are in great shape. The crossguard to grip fits are perfect. The grip is black died hardwood and looks good. It has some scratches, bumps and bruises and remains chip and crack-free. The nickel-silver eagle has great detail and a nice fit. The top nut is steel. So these early transitionals do sometimes use a mix of fittings and this is nothing to be concerned about. Remember when this left the factory all the fitting looked to be matching. It's just 85 years later the different materials have aged a bit differently. The SS roundel retains 99% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. Finally included is a 2 piece black hanger and loop.
