SS Partial Röhm Honor Dagger by Herder

Partial Röhm, Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Richard Abr. Herder of Solingen. E. Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service from December 31, 1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22, 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). 9900 were allocated for eligible members of the SS. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4, 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566). Any Röhm dagger is very rare, SS daggers are even rarer than SAs, then most are completely void of their inscription, scarcer is a partial “name only” removal. The acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription has been name only, “back yard” removed. The “Meine Ehere Heißt Treue” motto and “Rich. Abr. Herder Solingen” maker mark are correctly executed. About 90% of the maker mark remains. The tip comes to a less than perfect tip. Looks like if was ever so slightly retioped. On measuring it's 218.5mm that is 1.5mm short, about the width of a dime. There is a rough area to the edge just above the "M" in Meine. Looks like it was hit against a stone here. The blade rates a Exc+. It shows minor age grey, spotting and scratches throughout. The steel based black anodized scabbard has a dent 2" north of the lower obverse fitting. The body retains 95% of its original factory anodized finish. There is some light oxidation and wear with evidence this was worn with a vertical hanger at some point. The scalloped solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look good. They have minor bumps hits and some verdigris. The ball has some bumps. All four screws remain intact and unturned. The solid nickel-silver crossguards look excellent. The edges look to have been wiped. The reverse of the lower cross guard is district stamped “I” (Munich). Hard to make out but I suspect that the serialization over stamped the "I" with a 1. It is numbered "1244245" I can't really understand that as it's too high to be the guy's serial #, (perhaps with some professional research you could figure this out). The black hardwood grip looks wonderful. There are a few pressure marks but no cracks or chips. The solid nickel silver eagle retains beautiful detail and has a perfect fit. The SS runes roundel retains 99% of its enamel and has perfect fit. So this was purchased from the Vet's family last week. It's a virgin, never been apart unlike those tired daggers you find at shows.
