Here we have an Army Officers dove-head by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen (Wehrmacht Heer Säbel für Offiziere). The steel forged single edged, single fullered 33 inch long blade on this one looks good. The stamped “Original Eickhorn Solingen” 1935-1940 maker mark is beautifully executed. The plating gives it a nice mirror like finish. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. There is a bit of age gray. The blade rates Exc++. The steel based black enamel repainted scabbard looks good. It has good looking drag, ring, both throat retaining screws and it remains completely dent free! The scabbard body shows age minor paint loss yet it retains 98%+ coverage. The multi-piece hilt is constructed out of die struck brass that has been gold gilded. The detail and hand enhancing throughout the oak leaf moti is gorgeous! The obverse languet features a set of crossed swords. This is typical on the Imperial or Wiemar period and a bit unusual to see this in later production. Obviously there were some Army Officers who preferred not to sport a swas! Not all Officers were NSDAP supporters. The wood based celluloid covered grip has a crack to the celluloid at the very top I have shown. It is tightly wrapped in twisted triple aluminum wire wrap. A great piece you are sure to be pleased with!
