Model 1933 - Schutzstaffel Dienstdolch by Gottlieb Hammesfahr of Solingen-Foche. The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Meine Ehre Heißt Treue” motto and crossed pyramid encircled by “Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen-Foche” maker mark are both crisp and beautifully executed. Gorgeous crossgrain remains, which is easily visible as you shine it in the light. The blade is perfectly seated up against the hilt and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc++. It shows age greying throughout along with the common scratches and runner marks. There is some gun grease left in the scabbard so the blade will need a light wipe when you take it out. The steel based black period painted scabbard looks good. It holds 80% of the black pebbled painted finish. It remains completely dent free. The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look good. The ball has a bruise yet holds a round profile. The loop and ring have broken off twice with evidence of prior welding. When I got this, the loop and ring were lost and I have since replaced them. Four scabbard screws remain intact, one is a replacement. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The solid nickel-silver crossguards look excellent, matching the scabbard fittings patina perfectly. The reverse of the lower crossguard is district stamped “III” (Berlin). The black died hardwood grip looks great. There is a chip and crack to the reverse, two wee cracks to the obverse and typical bruises/scratches throughout. The grip to crossguard fits are perfect. The solid nickel-silver eagle is beautifully detailed with a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 95% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. This was purchased from the veteran’s son, it has never been in a collection.
