Unissued - United States, 1966 - Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge by N.S. Meyer of New York. Instituted in 1949, renamed three times, and issued to members of the United States armed forces who are permanently assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and its subordinate offices, and in addition, to some of the Defense Agencies and Department of Defense Field Activities. It is a multi-piece gilded brass and burnished sterling silver base that contains multi-colored enamel work. The round shaped obverse features centrally placed shield of the United States to the chest of an American eagle, with outstretched wings, clutching three arrows in its talons surrounded by a half olive branch wreath to the bottom-half and arching stars to the half-top, all on top of a rayed background. The badge is attached to a cardboard piece and is encased in a clear plastic cover and a pressed cardboard backing. It measures 4 ¼ inches wide by 5 5/8 inches tall by ½ inch thick. Very rare to see these unissued.
