Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by CAM - Carl August Meis of Solingen. Based on construction this knife can accurately be dated to 1934/1935. The early thin blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto is light yet remains 95% visible. The stamped “CAM Solingen” maker mark and encircled “Ges. Geschützt” patent mark are dark, crisp and beautifully executed. Traces of crossgrain remain. The fit continues to remain nice and tight and the tip comes to a sharp point. The blade rates an Exc++. It has been sharpened and shows age grey, spotting and scratches throughout. The buffer pad is lost to time. The steel based black painted scabbard looks great. It remains completely dent free and retains 97%+ paint coverage. There is one scabbard runner. The brown tanned “LFS” marked scabbard leather is in wonderful condition. All of the rivets remain intact and the snap continues to work well. The iron-based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 99%+ of its plating. There are some minor hits to the spine/pommel top. The grip plates are black checkered bakelite, they are in perfect condition and secured with two nickel-silver grip rivets. The obverse plate has the slightest wiggle to it. The small HJ diamond retains 99%+ of its enamel. Overall, this is piece is completely textbook, with the correct early era configuration and has the textbook thinning area to the maker mark. This one is sure to please!
