Miniatur - Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter 2. Stufe by L/11 - Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid. Introduced on December 16, 1938, the Honor Cross of the German Mother was awarded to mothers for exceptional merit to the German nation, who conceived and raised four to five (bronze), six to seven (silver) or eight or more (gold) children and exhibited probity and exemplary motherhood. These lapel versions were intended for everyday wear as opposed to formal wear (full sized cross). It is a two-piece construction made out die struck nickel-silver base that has been silver washed and includes blue, black and white enamel work. The obverse is in the form of a Christian cross and shows; a centrally place black static swastika above a white base, that is surrounded by “Der Deutschen Mutter” (The German Mother) and is in front of a sunburst pattern. The fullback reverse shows a recessed: “16. December 1938” along with two styles of Hitler’s facsimile signature and is marked “L/11” to the bottom. The enamel work is in wonderful shape being 99%+ intact. The cross measures approximately 7/8 of an inch tall by 5/8 of an inch wide. Included is a blue and white rayon bow tie ribbon. The steel plated pin has been sewn-on and continues to work well. A great piece.
