Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Carl Heidelberg of Solingen. Based on construction this knife can accurately be dated to 1936. The early thin blade on this one looks great! The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” looped motto (Textbook for Heidelberg), stamped encircled two-bottles “Carl Heidelberg Solingen” maker mark and “Ges. Geschützt” patent mark are all beautifully executed. The blade has a very slight jiggle as so often happens the rivets have shrunk a bit. Blade comes to a perfect point. The is a wee hit to the edge. The blade rates an Exc++ It has even age tone, age grey, spotting and scratches throughout. The leather buffer pad is lost to time. The steel based black painted scabbard looks great. It remains completely dent free and retains 95%+ paint coverage. There are 2 scabbard runners. The black scabbard leather has age. There is some surface cracking and the top end has been glue together. All of the rivets remain intact and the snap continues to work well but suggest, as I always do that you no be pulling on this as the leather wants to crack. The iron-based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 96%+ of its plating, with wear to the expected areas. The grip plates are black checkered bakelite, they are in perfect condition and tightly secured with two nickel grip rivets. The small, wiggly HJ diamond retains 99%+ of its enamel. Overall, this piece is an early textbook configuration, with the correct motto variation and correct die flaw.
