Ouch! Just cut myself on this one! The blade on this one has been buffed and edges as a result are sharp. The blade is very bright and clean, with a tight fit and crisp edges that come to a sharp point. The Solingen maker mark and "Alles fur Deutschland" motto are beautifully executed and still remain dark to the backgrounds. Also, the marker mark rates 7 out of 10 on McSarrs SA Rarity Rating. The blade rates Exc+. The exterior of this piece is beautiful and will surely make for a great display. The brown anodized scabbard looks awesome! No dents, no oxidization spots just some thinning of the anodizing from honest wear. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look great! All the screws remain intact and the scabbard / crossguard fit is near perfect. The early solid nickel crossguards are what one would expect to see. The reverse of the lower crossguard reads ?He" (Hessen). The grip / crossguard fits are perfect. In fact, I do not believe this has ever been apart. The lower guard is a bit brighter as a result of where the family buffed this. For you folks looking to sell things to me please never try to improve things by cleaning, you will only hurt the value!! The solid reddish pear wood grip is in excellent condition. A few bumps/scrapes from period wear but no cracks or chips. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel is slightly discolored to the top, yet it retains 100% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. To top this one off it comes with a lightly worn hanger with a well working ?long snout? clip! If you can live with a buffed blade this one has a beauty exterior.
