Eickhorn Navy with Yellow Grip

Here is an absolute beauty purchased in Ontario from the Veteran's daughter this week. Blade has nice deep dark fouled anchor design. Properly maker marked on the reverse with the stamped Eickhorn mid period marker mark. There are just a few wee stains from water marks towards the tip. It rates and easy Exc++. The blade retains it's textbook tan felt buffer pad. Fittings are nicely detailed brass with polished highlights. Now guys I say that, and so many new collectors do not even know what I'm talkin' about. See when they made these things the high areas of the hilt and important details were polished smooth and the rest left with a matte finish. These were then gilded and finally lacquered. Now when you look at this hilt in the sun the swas winks right back at you as do all those details on the anchor and crossguard. So few daggers out there still retain their factory lacquer, most guys never see this. Typical Eickhorn quality that was tops right up to the final few months of production. Button functions quite fine. The scabbard has a wee impression that is near impossible to photograph but you could find it with your fingers to the mid-section of the reverse. This dagger retains all it's fire-gilt and 95%+ of the lacquer. Grip is chip and crack-free celluloid that has aged to a pleasing light yellow. Finishing this example is a rare nylon Navy portepee that has been there forever.
