The Böntgen & Sabin, Stahlwarenfabrik, partnership began around 1870 with August B öntgen and Louis Sabin. B&S registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on November 22, 1876. Come 1900, the DRAB lists the company as a manufacturer of: metalware, knives, straight razors, scissors and pocket knives. It also has two registered patents on Patentmesser (knives) and Prinzessinscheren (scissors). Böntgen & Sabin registered its leg-and-football trademark in 1907. In 1928, Walter Böntgen was listed as the sole owner. During the Imperial era, B&S made S. 84/98 and SG-98/05aA bayonets. The 1922 advertisement above features some trademarks and lists their specialty offerings. During the Third Reich era, Böntgen & Sabin made early era SA/NSKK daggers. In 1935, the company was located on Mittelstrasse 13-15 in Solingen. B&S did not receive an RZM number at that time and no other dress daggers are known to have been manufactured. W. Dultgen was listed as the owner from 1930-1939. Come 1970, the firm ceased trading and the remaining stock was purchased by the Robert Klaas company.
