C. Gustav Spitzer, Solingen | RZM M7/80


The C. Gustav Spitzer AG Stahlwaren-Fabrik company began in 1863 by Carl Gustav Spitzer. It registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on October 19, 1883. The company concentrated on the sale of: pocket, sporting and hunting knives. Spitzer was located at Scharfhausen bei, Solingen in 1884. The company registered the Lion trademark in 1895. Richard, Eduard and Ernst Spitzer were all owners from 1900-1920. The 1922 advertisement (left) features four pocket knives and markets specializing in pocket and pen knives. From 1928-1939 the company was owned by Ernst Spitzer alone. In 1935, Spitzer's factory was located on Feldstraße 59. During the Third Reich era, Spitzer made many edged weapons, including: Army, SA/NSKK, SS, RLB, Luftwaffe daggers, dress and police bayonets and HJ knives. Spitzer received its RZM M7/80 license around late-1937. It also received the SS contract code 1197 SS (1938 and 39). Come 1973 the company was manufacturing: pocket, stiletto and sheath knives.
