C. Schlieper, Solingen
The Carl Schlieper, Stahlwarenfabrik und Export, company was founded in 1754, in Cronenberg near Remscheid. Around 1880, Schlieper moved to Konigstrasse 179 in Remscheid, while the business was expanding its markets to other countries. In 1897, a subsidiary company "Carl Schlieper Stahlwarenfabrik GmbH" began to trade from Kornerstrasse 49 in Solingen, in order to capitalize on the "City of Blades" location. Come January 4, 1883, Schlieper registered its Eye with Sun-Rays trademark, along with a similar variation in 1899. The business began to flourish, which forced management to acquire larger premises on Burger Landstrasse. On March 14, 1898, Schlieper registered with the Remscheid Chamber of Commerce. Schlieper's catalogs at that time featured their offerings as industrial goods ranging from: all kinds of cutlery and hand tools, to diesel engines and complete sugar-refining plants. By the 1900s, Schlieper also included in their offerings thousands of patterns and designs of every type of cutlery. Come 1914, Carl and Walter Schlieper were listed as owners. By WWI, hunting knives, pocket knives and daggers were also advertised. After the Great War, exports flourished with targeted advertisements in over twenty foreign languages. The Solingen subsidiary was extremely successful, building an export trade large enough to employ several hundred independent manufacturing businesses in the area. Come the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were made-Fisher estimates 1,000. After WWII, products included professional knives for cooks and butchers, pocket knives, hunting, sporting and pruning knives and scissors. In 1988, the Remscheid and Solingen companies were consolidated in Solingen. In 1993, Carl Schlieper was liquidated and all of its assets and equipment were sold.
