Ernst Pack & Söhne, Solingen

The Ernst Pack & Söhne, Stahlwarenfabrik/Ritterwerk, company traces its beginnings back to 1909 with the "Pack, Ohliger & Co. GmbH Waffen und Stahlwarenfabrik" partnership. Pack, Ohliger & Co. manufactured: swords, bayonets and daggers that were trademarked with Jung Siegfried wielding a hammer above "P.O & Co" or "Pack Ohliger & Co. Solingen". E. Pack officially formed when Robert Ohliger left the company in 1922. That same year Pack, Ohliger & Co. had committed to advertise in Solingen und sein Industriebezirk, yet due to the partnership breaking up, a "Now Ritterwerk Ernst Pack & Söhne m. b. H. Solingen" sticker was manually placed over the initial ad in every single publication. It still featured their offerings which included: hair and beard clippers and the finest-quality straight razors. With Ohliger gone, E. Pack took over the factory on Ritterstrasse 61-5 and continued trading from that location. By 1930, the use of "Ritterwerk" had been replaced in favor of "Ernst Pack & Söhne". E. Pack was heavily involved in the Earliest era production pieces of the NSDAP. They manufactured: 1. Model Hitler Youth knives, SA "Prototype" daggers and Pack remains the only known manufacturer of SS "Prototype" daggers. Come 1935, Pack did not receive an RZM license where 65 other manufacturers did. Production then concentrated on the Wehrmacht sidearms including: Luftwaffe, Army and Navy daggers along with many dress, etched and combat bayonets and swords etc. In 1938/39, E. Pack was able to acquire the SS contract code RZM 1211/38 SS. "The Waffen von Pack" 1938 catalogue features edged weapons for the: Wehrmacht, forestry service, fire brigade, RAD, customs, police and mining officials. E. Pack eventually registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce, after the war, on March 30, 1951. Business continued into the 1960s and was eventually sold to Hans-Joachim Haug. Also, at that time Haug owned: E. & F. Hörster, Robert Hermes and Gottfried Weyersberg Söhne. E. Pack then moved to the Hörster location on Katternberger Straße 128 in 1986 and remained there until 1996.
