The Emil Gierling Stahlwarenfabrik company began prior to 1925. It registered with the Solingen authorities on March 1, 1928. Gierling manufactured: shears, cutlery and manicure articles. 1932, 1935 and 1938 records show the company located on Schützen Straße 30. Advertisements published in Die Klinge, dating from 1939-40, describe the bird trademark as "The leading mark for poultry shears and nail clippers." Come 1939, the company moved to Klingen Straße 36 and then again to Kanal Straße in 1955. Gierling produced: HJ knives, SA daggers and fireman bayonets during the Third Reich era. The company dissolved on May 29, 1957.
