The Friedrich von der Kohlen GmbH Stahlwarenfabrik company began on April 1, 1874. It registered in Solingen on October 14, 1887. The company began by manufacturing cutlery, along with: specialty meat, bread, kitchen and pocket knives. The "FK" monogram trademark was registered on December 19, 1925. Friedrich von der Kohlen owned the business from 1874-1911, when it was transferred to his son-in-law August Frigge, who then owned it until May 1, 1949. The company was located on Freiheit strasse 2 in 1932. During the Third Reich era, Kohlen manufactured SA/NSKK daggers and HJ knives. August Frigge transferred ownership to his son-in-law Felix Wilp until August 1, 1975, when Wilp's son Egbert Wilp took over. In 2001, F. von der Kohlen was controlling the quality and finish of the products of a group of small Stahlwarenfabrik companies. Manufacturing demand continued for domestic and export markets. Sales continued for: flatware, kitchen, butcher, paring and steak knives as well as scissors and pocket knives.
